Washable Reusable Bed
Pad Buyers Guide
- What is a washable reusable underpad? A washable reusable
underpad is a piece of material that has a soaker underneath it and is sewn to
a Vinyl Back Barrier. The purpose of the product is to capture urine and
absorb it into the soaker material so it does not ruin furniture. You
can choose from 100% cotton (Birdseye = soft), 100% polyester (soft-man made
material -last long), IBEX (80% cotton/20% cotton blend - long lasting), or
some other type of blend.
- Will the vinyl back barrier on your
Underpads crack after being washed? NO - The vinyl is manufactured to
maintain a soft texture and will not crack when laundered.
- Will the vinyl on the Underpads melt when
it is in the dryer? NO - You should NOT exceed 168º F drying temperature
to avoid damaging the underpad.
- How long does a reusable bed Underpad last
before I have to throw it our? The life of the underpad depends on how
you have laundered it. The more bleach you use on the underpad the
shorter its life will be. If you launder it carefully the Underpad can be
reused several hundred times.
- I read about the soaker material on many
of websites and I do not understand what this means. What is the soaker in an
Underpad? Underpads are manufactured with different liquid
absorption capacities. Most Underpads have either a 6 ounce, 8 ounce, or 10
ounce poly/rayon soaker (per square yard) sewn under the top layer of the bed
pad. We sell a 12 ounce soaker underpad also. Does this mean that they
only hold 6, 8, 10, or 12 ounces of urine? NO - The soaker weight defines the
weight of the soaker material not the ounces of liquid they will absorb.
Generally, the lighter the soaker weight the less urine will be wicked away
(absorbed) from the person lying on the Underpad. However the more rayon
in a soaker the more the underpad will absorb. Traditionally most
underpads are made of 5% rayon and 95% polyester. Our Super Soaker™
underpads are made of 20% rayon and 80% polyester. They will absorb
more than the other common underpads on the market due to the higher rayon
content.
A tip on shopping:
-
A website or brick and mortar store
should show you the weight of the soaker material (6 ounce, 8 ounce, 10 ounce,
etc...) and the % of polyester and rayon in the underpads. If they do not disclose the soaker material weight
and composition you should
assume that the soaker is 6 ounces or less (a lower costing underpad). Please Note: If you have very mild incontinence a lighter
soaker is OK to use. Also a lighter soaker will take less energy to dry
in a dryer. However if you pay MORE money for the underpad then other
sites you ARE merely buying a low quality underpad at a high price.
